Build openSUSE 11.3 appliances now

It took us a bit longer than expected, but now we are happy to announce, that SUSE Studio now also supports building appliances based on openSUSE 11.3. So you can take advantage of the latest and greatest features, which come with this release of openSUSE. We will continue to support building existing appliances on older openSUSE versions, but new openSUSE based appliances will all be 11.3.

We will also add migration of 11.2 based appliances to 11.3, so that you can easily move existing appliances to the latest openSUSE version. If all goes well, we'll release this next week. Until then you can just continue with your 11.2 based appliances and migrate them later, or if you prefer to have 11.3 immediately start with a new one.

Have a lot of fun with openSUSE 11.3 in SUSE Studio.

  1. Nice!

Btw, is it possible to include sources of selected packages in the resulting images? Helps with being GPL-compliant, especially in case of OBS-provided repositories, where packages can be removed at any moment.

  2. thank you!!!! keep up the good work guys!

depended on a bugfix in the 2.6.32 kernel so *really* needed 11.3 to get the project going again...

  3. 11.3 made my scanner scan instead of humming like a monster bee. Really don`t regret the upgrade from (great!) 11.2.
    Fine job, folks. TU!! Werner

  4. Is there a way to choose the defualt background so when you start your appliance, it will have that background you selected?

  5. but such 11.3 appliances still don't work just fine with AWS, righ?!?

  6. I'm just learning about this, and it wasn't what I initially thought. However, it is super cool, and the world needs more VM appliances! Awesome site.

  7. blog-en, there's a couple extra things to take care of for AWS - we're working on that and it will be available in the near future.
